The Tasmanian and Bass Strait form of the common wombat, smaller than the mainland subspecies. A stocky, burrowing marsupial with small eyes, a bald nose and ever-growing incisors, mostly nocturnal, and known for producing cube-shaped droppings; an estimated 840,000 survive in Tasmania.
